| Max Stern's budding interest in modern art when he was still in Germany can be seen in his collection of modern art exhibition catalogues. This catalogue of an exhibition of contemporary art held by the art association, Das Junge Rheinland, at the Städtische Kunsthalle Düsseldorf dates from October 1927. Max Stern inscribed a shelf label in pen: Dü 1927, thus making it possible to arrange catalogues by place and year for easy access.
