Description: Beatrice Bath Francis and Gwendolyn Francis, daughters of Marian Francis, William Osler's first cousin. They are about four and six years old in this photo, respectively. Osler was close to the Marian and her sister Jennette Osler, and while he was fond of children in general, he was especially fond of Marian's children. The family lived in Montreal, and during Osler's time there as a student and professor he visited them frequently. Along with their brother W. W. Francis, Gwen and Bea were said to be Osler's favourites.
