Description: George Grant Francis, III, eldest son of Marian Francis, William Osler's first cousin. George is about five years old in this picture; he did not live past the age of eighteen, succumbing to typhoid with secondary meningitis after a long illness. The Francis family, and Marian's sister Jennette Osler, lived on McGill College Avenue in Montreal while William Osler was a medical student and, later, a professor of medicine at McGill Medical School. He was a frequent visitor to the Francis home, and was especially fond of Marian's children.
