Description: Francis Llewellyn Osler, Sir William Osler's "Brother Frank", photographed in Frascati, Italy in 1925. Frank was considered the black sheep of the family, having run off to sea as a young man and never having achieved the level of success of his brothers, particularly Sir William, Britton Bath Osler, a prominent lawyer, and Edmund Boyd Osler, a banker and politician. William and Frank were not close; when Frank and his wife Belle visited William and Grace Revere Osler in Oxford for Christmas in 1913, the brothers had not seen each other since William had lived in Montreal, thirty years earlier. After that Christmas, however, the two families saw each other with some frequency. Frank attended Sir William's funeral in 1919, where his resemblance to his famous younger brother was much remarked upon.
