Description: Sir William Osler with medical staff of the American Women's War Hospital in Paignton, England. Standing, in white, is Dr. W.T. Fitzsimmons, who in 1917 became the first American killed by the enemy in the American Expeditionary Force. Edgar Lorrington Gilcreest, standing at the far right, wrote a reminiscence of Osler's time at the hospital that was published in a special memorial number of the Bulletin of the International Association of Medical Museums (no. IX, June 1926).
