This was Osler's fourth visit to North America since moving to Oxford in 1905; the primary reason for his visit was to give an oration at the opening of "Osler Hall", the auditorium of the new library building of the Medical and Chirurgical Faculty of Maryland. Montreal was his last stop after visiting Boston, Philadelphia, New York, Buffalo and Toronto.
