Description: Sir William Osler at the American Women's War Hospital in Paignton, South Devonshire, England, in 1915. Osler served as a consultant to the hospital during the First World War. According to Edgar Lorrington Gilcreest, who was an American Red Cross surgeon at the hospital, this photo was taken surreptitiously by a nurse, who was waiting for an opportunity to photograph Osler by himself.
