Description: These initials were cut into a beech tree at Little Gillions, Croxley Green, Hertfordshire, England by William Osler in July of 1890. Osler was at Little Gillions visiting Dr. Dr. Edward Sharpey-Schäfer, who taught Osler at University College, Oxford while he was studying abroad from 1872-1874. This photograph was taken by Dr. Herbert J. Shirley on January 10, 1921, and is reproduced in Cushing's "The Life of Sir William Osler", vol. 1, p. 333.
