Description: A sketch of William Osler drawn by Sarah Gooll Putnam, cousin of Osler's friends Charles P. and James Jackson Putnam and a prolific portrait artist in 19th-century Boston. Charles and James Putnam, along with Henry Pickering Bowditch, dean of Harvard Medical School from 1883 to 1893 and also a friend of Osler, and William James, the eminent American psychologist and philosopher, owned a camp known as "Beede's" in the Adirondacks, where Sarah Gooll Putnam spent many summers; William Osler visited this camp in the summer of 1879. This sketch, however, was made on a train from Montreal, most likely on the way home to Boston.
Notes: By Sarah G. Putnam? Drawn on train on a trip from Montreal -- late seventies or early eighties probably. Putnams camp (?). 3 photos 1/2 net. size are in Osler photo box. 1946. last one sent to the Bowditchs, who gave this, 1955. By "Cousin Sally Putnam" (letter of Dr. Harold Bowditch, 1955, son of H.P.B. Loaned to Dr. Wm. N. Bradley Phila., ... photo'd. Dec 1945 ret'd with 3 photos Dec. 26th.
