Wilcocke, Samuel Hull. Narrative of Circumstances attending the death of the late Benjamin Frobisher, Esquire a partner of the North West Company of Montreal, ca. 1820 [Revised Text]. An electronic transcription. MFTP #0020 81 Mr Frobisher was a native of York in England, and was in his [space] year at the time of his death. The following letters which passed between Mr Connolly, (the gentleman who was, on behalf of the North West Company at the head of the department in which the catastrophe occurred) and Mr Williams will close this narrative. They are both dated "Cumberland House" which arises from the circumstance that the North West Company and the Hudson's Bay Company both have establishments close to each other to which each have given the same name[.] "Cumberland House, Dec. 24th. 1[8...] Sir, I presume that you are acquainted with Mr. Frobisher's departure from York Fort. The se[quel] of his undertaking I think fit to relate to you, that [you] may not be misrepresented, and that you may prepare a defence of those proceedings which will now become a matter of interest, not only to his connections, but to the people of Great Britain. He was left in Cedar Lake "by [81] L E G E N D : |
