Wentzel, Willard Ferdinand. Fifteen letters from Wentzel at Mackenzie River to Roderick Mackenzie, 1807-1824. An electronic transcription. MFTP #0012

they maintain was a Large Lake which communicates with the Sea by an a very broad outlet – and not a Bay of [the] Ocean as generally believed by the Whites[.] They had their information from the Louchoux and there from the Esquimeaux who are the Second Tribe of Indians from the Sea – or the – neighbouring nation to those bordering it[.] The Sea Tribe are called Sharp Eyes – from what reason they have this Strange name I could not learn – except the Fabulous tradition of the Esquimeaux, who assert that they Kill People with their Eyes – only by looking at them[.] Hoping I may not have presumed too far on your Kind indulgence in the foregoing – I beg leave to conclude with my most Humble respects to Mrs MacKenzie and Mr Harry MacKenzie, and remain with gratitude most respectfully
