Insects, in this Country are the Same as in Canada – the Cricket only is not to be found Here[.]

Waterfowl}

Are the Great & Small Swan, Large & little Bustard, Grey & White Goose – Ducks, are the Large Grey duck Spoon Bill duck, Paigne en Quewe, KanKanwee, Petoine, Small Grey Duck, Betrie and water Fowl – Loon, Grey, White, and Black headed Gulls, Sea and Land Pluvers, Snipes & Cranes, besides the Pelican[.]

Land Birds}

Land Birds are the Eagle, The fish, chicken, muskeeto & night Hawks, Grey and White Owl, The Crow, Pheasant, Wood, Swamp & White Partridge – King Fisher, Robin, Black Bird, Nightingale, Yellow Bird, besides many others which I a[m] not able to discover the Names[.]

Animals & Beasts}

Large & Small Animals, are the Elk, Large & Small Carriboux, Grey, Black & Red Bears, The Goat, besides another Beast, which is Peculiar to the Rocky Mountain, this Animal the Indians tell me is about the Size & Bulk of an Elk, with Short Legs, a Long Neck, & has two Great Horns like a Stag under which two Small ones Sprout out[.] The Flesh of this Beast they say has a very fine Taste tho I have never Seen any, the Grease of the Back Fat
