an occasion handed over in return to the Chief, his Saddle – and bags, in other words his Purse and both appeared equally delighted with the transaction[.] [S]eeing that Mr Chaboillez was provided for I remarked to the Chief that Mr Henry was also deserving of his attention – And the Borgne made a long speech to the Camp in favour of the White Chiefs[.] He expressed his obligations to them for personal favours and for numberless favours conferred at different times within a few seasons upon the Several Indians tribes[.] Then addressing himself to me "Tomorrow I shall adopt a Shayann who will be a brother to you[.] Then I will present my Pipe loaded plentifully with Christian goods and among those goods will be two hundred Guns – for which I expect in return so many horses from the Shayanns – Out of which number the white chief and you my Son may choose one for each[.]"

Late in the evening we were annoyed with an uproar in the camp[.] Observing the people running in confusion towards a certain point we followed in the rear and discovered that the noise was occasioned by the arrival of Three Asseneboines – who having come to the Mississourie Villages immediately after our departure
