had I scarcely a shirt to my back nor a blanket to sleep in at the time[.] Next day we got to the Fort – which was the Twenty third from the Mississourie[.] The desertion of my men at the Mandanes, and the failure of the horses in the way home injured my reception – however when my Returns were examined and the horses were recovered My Expedition was thought more of and in the end I had no reason to complain[.]
