Wainwright Refineries Limited was incorporated in Ontario in 1949. The company changed its name to Wainwright Producers & Refiners Limited in 1953. In 1966, the company changed its name to Wainoco Oil and Chemicals Ltd. In 1971, the company's name changed to Wainoco Oil Ltd. In 1976, the company changed its name to Wainoco Oil Corporation and continued into Wyoming. Wainoco Oil Corporation changed its name to Frontier Oil Corporation in 1998.
