	Marc Chagall, who frequently illustrated Yiddish literary publications, produced many drawings for this work. As an illustration for the poem, "Idish" (Yiddish) in vol. l, Chagall personifies the Yiddish language and tradition as an angel gently reaching out to inspire the sleeping poet (p. 12-14).
