Narrative… Egypt and Nubia, title page and frontispiece of Belzoni
Belzoni, Giovanni Battista, 1778-1823. Narrative of the operations and recent discoveries within the pyramids, temples, tombs, and excavations, in Egypt and Nubia : and of a journey to the coast of the Red Sea ..., and another to the oasis of Jupiter Ammon / by G. Belzoni. London : John Murray, 1820 (London : Thomas Davison)
Belzoni declares himself the exclusive author of the "operations" undertaken during his travels in Egypt, as well as of the ensuing travel account. Individual enterprise, indeed, by contrast with the large-scale collaborative projects of scientific expeditions, Belzoni's travels reveal, in the second part of the work, the existence of a companion and cowriter: Sarah Belzoni, author of "Mrs. Belzoni's trifling account of the women of Egypt, Nubia, and Syria."
