J. Try-Davies and Robert Harris most probably conceived their project of collaboration during the meetings of the Pen and Pencil Club. One of the Montreal Club's scrapbooks contains, on the same page, their respective contributions (drawing and aphorism) on the topic "The Portrait," presented on December 9 1898 (McCord Museum, The Pen and Pencil Club archival collection). The work has been attributed to Sophie Margaretta Hensley, probably on account of the feminist topic of the piece (short story) entitled "A Semi-Detached House."

L'un des scrapbooks du Club enregistre sur la même page leurs contributions respectives (dessin et aphorisme) sur le thème du portrait, présentées dans la séance du 9 décembre 1898 (Musée McCord, Fonds d'archives Pen and Pencil Club).
