Hanau "Sollux" lamp. [c.1920]. Artifact. Osler Library of the History of Medicine.
This photograph depicts an original Hanau "Sollux" quartz lamp, produced likely betwen 1920 and 1925 by the company founded by Wilhem Heraeus, a chemist and apothecary, in 1851 in the German town of Hanau. Various lamps such as these were developed for phototherapeutic treatments, each manufacturer or doctor declaring its superiority over all others.
