| Martha Teles (also spelled Telles) was an expatriate Portuguese painter living in Montreal who was exhibited at and represented by the Dominion Gallery. She became a naturalized Canadian in 1974. Stern recommended her for a Canada Council grant, which she was awarded in 1980/81. She sent him this catalogue of an exhibition held at the distinguished Gulbenkian Foundation in Lisbon after her return to Portugal (signed presentation inscription to Dr. Max Stern). He had lent works for this exhibition, including catalogue item no. 49, Retrato do Dr. Max Stern, her watercolour portrait of him painted in 1981 (for an illustration, please see the book by Agustina Bessa Luís). The portrait was in his private collection. Introductory texts are by José Sommer Ribeiro and Luis de Moura Sobral.
