| Karl Koetschau's collection includes 24 books about Albrecht Dürer. This annotated edition of Dürer's writings (from his literary remains), edited by Konrad von Lange (1855-1921) and Franz Louis Fuhse (1865-1937), has numerous annotations in the margins and an inscription in pen on the title page: "Rezension von mir über dieses Buch in dem Grenzboten vom 5. April 1894". Koetschau thus made a note of his book review published in the journal Grenzboten, 4. IV. 1894 (it is listed as such in the bibliography of his writings in his Festschrift). At that time he had just earned his doctorate and was a private scholar in Gotha.
