| This spring exhibition held in Düsseldorf at the Städtischer Kunstpalast from 3 March to 14 April 1914 was followed by an auction. The catalogue was rebound with interleaved notebook leaves. They have numerous ms. notes in pen of buyers' names and prices relating to the auction. The signature of Fritz Bismeyer is on the flyleaf. He is listed among the members of the art board ("Kunst-Ausschuss", p. 3) as the managing director of the art gallery, traditionally by court appointment, bearing his name ("Hofkunsthändler Fr. Bismeyer, Geschäftsführer"). Galerie Stern records list his name with the names of artists and prices, though it is not clear whether he bought from or sold works to Julius Stern. The ms. label on the spine reads: Dü 1912, and the catalogue is stamped: Dominion Gallery. |
