Description |
|
Karl Koetschau, who was a friend of Julius and a mentor and professor of Max, wrote this history of the beginnings of the Municipal Art Collections of Düsseldorf (Kunstsammlungen der Stadt Düsseldorf). When he was the director of the collections, he reorganized them and had them housed in a newly built Kunstmuseum, which opened in 1928. His book includes a catalogue of art acquisitions since he took office in 1913. Among the works listed is Max Liebermann's undated (before 1916) charcoal drawing, Bildnis des Sammlers Stern, which is one of two known portraits of Julius Stern. It is no. 208, illustrated on p. 32.
