| The foreword (in English and Dutch) of this catalogue of an exhibition of English art is signed Kenneth Clark. Max Stern must have viewed the exhibition in Amsterdam because the catalogue contains margin annotations (to works which are not illustrated), noting what he found "sehr farbig" (very colourful, p. 58), or "sehr schön" (very beautiful, p. 60). The inscription reads: IV D 2 (IV being the code number for English art).
