| This auction catalogue documents the sale of paintings from the private collection of Julius Stern of München-Gladbach (today Mönchengladbach), including works by Wilhelm Klein and other chiefly 19th century Düsseldorf painters. It was held by the auction house J.M. Heberle (H. Lempertz' Söhne) in Cologne on 29-30 March 1904. Julius Stern (1867-1934) was Max Stern's father. He sold works from his collection just before moving to Düsseldorf to open an art gallery, Galerie Julius Stern, in a bigger city. Max Stern was born less than three weeks after the auction. The Collection has two copies of the catalogue, one with numbers and letters (that are probably a code for numbers, i.e. prices) in pencil throughout.
