| This rare, richly illustrated, bibliophile edition of the study of works by the Belgian painter and printmaker Félicien Rops has text in German and captions on the plates in French, English and German. Max Stern acquired it while he was still living in Germany, well before the renewal of interest in this avant-garde artist. It is inscribed with the code number I 400a. When Stern classified his library around 1937, I was the code number assigned to artists' monographs.
