Description |
|
The ms. inscription in Max Stern's handwriting on the half-title: "Manag. Dir. Miss Green left last catalog and card", suggests that he visited this exhibition in New York on his first trip to North America, travelling from London in the spring of 1939. The endpaper is stamped: Dominion Gallery. Stern's notes were to help him follow up for future business. Belle da Costa Greene was the first director of the Pierpont Morgan Library. She held this post for many years and often travelled to Europe to buy manuscripts and books for the collection. He must have met her when he left her the most recent catalogue of West's Galleries in London and his business card.
