| The ms. inscription on the front endpaper is legible only in part: "... Stern ... 1926"; the inscribed code III D 1 is Stern's classification number for German art. The book is also stamped: Dominion Gallery. It thus documents three stages in Stern's life: acquiring books as a student, classifying his library just before leaving Germany in 1937, and, finally, his new home in Canada.
