| The author, who worked at the Municipal Art Museum in Düsseldorf, was one of the advisors Stern thanks in the acknowledgements in his dissertation. Horn presented his history of graphic art in Düsseldorf to Stern on 18 October 1928, probably on the occasion of his graduation. The dated and signed dedication inscription referring to their work together is addressed to "Dr. Max Stern". The section on Johann Peter Langer in the book mentions Max Stern's research in progress on Langer. The section on Adolf Uzarski includes an illustration on the bookplate he designed for Karl Koetschau in 1917.
