Letter written by Max Stern when he was doing research for his doctoral dissertation. It was found in his copy of R. Klapheck, Geschichte der Kunstakademie zu Düsseldorf (Düsseldorf: Staatliche Kunstakademie, 1919) Translated from the original German into English, it reads:

I am working on my dissertation on Johann Peter von Langer (1756-1824). In the local archive there is only very little material on the "Electoral Academy of Düsseldorf" during Langer's term of office as the Director of the Academy, 1789-1806.
The art historian, Professor Dr. Klapheck of the local academy drew your archive to my attention.
I would be very grateful if you could let me know whether there are files on the Electoral Academy of Düsseldorf dating from around 1780-1810 in your collection.
