This project was first undertaken in 1999 by three McGill librarians, Marika Asimakopulos, Darlene Canning, and Elizabeth Gibb.

Without the financial support of Professor S.J. Price, chairman of the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Professor J. Gruzleski, Dean of Engineering, this project would not have been possible.

Two McGill students were vital to the project. John Dupuis, a practicum student from the Graduate School of Library and Information Studies, designed the database and the web interface, and created the link to the full text of the reports. Hussieni Azad, a student in mechanical engineering, created the database and scanned the documents. Both students deserve praise for their pivotal roles in the pilot portion of this project.

Steve Burliuk has provided essential in-house support. He is part of the Schulich Library team that enabled this project to come to fruition.

David McKnight, Digital Collections Librarian, and his competent staff, Marwan Al-Sabbagh, web programmer, and Zeenat Insaf, web designer, Digital Collections Program, provided the necessary resources to put this project on the web. It was David's belief in the project from the very beginning that provided the librarians with the impetus to persist.

The second phase of the project, the technical reports of the Department of Civil Engineering and Applied Mechanics, began in 2003 thanks to the Richard M. Tomlinson Digital Library Access Award. Funding has also come from Dean J. Gruzleski of the Faculty of Engineering, and Professor D. Mitchell, chair of the Department. Marika Asimakopulos and Elizabeth Gibb undertook this phase of the project. McGill's Work Study Program continued its support. Noor Alif, a student in the Department, entered the data into the database and scanned the documents. David McKnight and his staff, Elizabeth Thomson, Eli Brown and Maria Gosselin provided invaluable technical and supervisory support.
