A black and white photograph of Abigail Adams Eliot (Abby Eliot). She is shown standing, wearing a long, dark dress, with her hands upon the head of a child. Other children can be seen in front of and around her. She appears to be speaking in a crowd or meeting. Abby Eliot was a pioneer in the nursery or preschool movement in the United States during the twentieth century. She met the Penfields while she was studying in Oxford during 1919 and 1920. This image is dated as having been taken during the spring of 1922 when Abby Eliot was working at the Ruggles Street Day Nursery in Roxbury, a neighbourhood of Boston, Massachusetts. This is the only image on page 92 of the 1919 - 1927 photo album compiled by Wilder Penfield.
