Letter from Wilder Penfield to J.C. McKenzie, September 19, 1945.
Date:
1945-09-19
Description:
This is a typewritten letter from Wilder Penfield to Colonel J.C. MacKenzie of the Royal Canadian Army Medical Corps. In the letter, Dr. Penfield informs Col. Mackenzie that most of the Montreal Neurological Institute’s new Military Annex has been completed, and that the building is already housing patients. However, Dr. Penfield also notes that he would like to bring a number of unfinished elements of the Military Annex’s construction and outfitting, for which the military is responsible, to Col. MacKenzie’s attention. In particular, Dr. Penfield writes that he is still waiting for the authorization of sufficient funds to complete a partially constructed deck on the roof of the new Annex building. The deck is intended to allow patients to go outside while being partially protected from the weather. He outlines alternatives to this roof top deck that could be used to give patients access to the outside should the deck not be completed, although he insists that such alternatives are not desirable. In addition to the deck, Dr. Penfield informs Col. McKenzie that the Annex’s beds are still lacking proper casters and that the institute’s x-ray table, the assemblage of which the military appears to have been responsible, is still not assembled. The letter is dated September 19, 1945.
