Description:

A soldier sits in meditation, taking a rest from his gruesome task of burying his fallen comrades. The field is strewn with dead bodies. A dead horse can be seen in the right background. In the left background, a cross indicates another gravesite. The soldier is himself wounded, his right foot is bandaged. A dead soldier in the foreground has a bullet-hole in his forehead. Instead of a title, is a design of stars, olive branches, weapons, and the Legion of Honour.
