Description:

Napoleon dressed in Roman garb and crowned with laurel rides on a chariot pulled by four horses. He is flanked by two female figures: Peace on the right with cornucopia/fruit basket, and Victory holding the palm and driving the chariot. All around the chariot female figures representing the arts and sciences. At the front, cherubs dancing. The painting was commissioned by Brun-Neergaard, but never finished by Prud'hon. The drawing was exhibited at the 1801 Salon to great success. Different versions of the sketch, for instance in Tulard Napoleon wears Consular uniform. Based on Prud'hon's 'Le Triomphe de Bonaparte, ou la Paix.'
