The Hugh Maclennan Papers (MS466)
Hugh MacLennan's papers include correspondence, both personal and business,
1916-1990, and in particular a long series from the early 1930s with his future
wife Dorothy Duncan; manucripts and typescripts of his novels and other books
including two unpublished novels, "So All Their Praises" (1933) and "A Man
Should Rejoice" (ca 1937); business papers including contracts and royalty
statements; photographs and some memborabilia. The Hugh MacLennan papers were
acquired in three groups - - in 1967, in 1991 and in 1992. Another significant
body of MacLennan papers is held by the University of
Calgary. The papers of the Canadian-American writer Dorothy Duncan,
MacLennan's first wife, are also held by the Department (The Dorothy Duncan Papers: MS698). These include a long
run of letters from MacLennan. There are also a number of smaller collections of
MacLennan letters held by the Department.
