In addition to Métis-sur-Mer, Gwendolen Marjorie Howard spent her vacations on Île d'Orléans, located on the St Lawrence River new Quebec City. The island was where the family of her close friend Phyllis Porteous had a summer house. Phyllis' father, Charles E.L. Porteous, was the Manager of the Quebec City offices of the Bank of Montreal. He, his wife, Francis Eliza Drury, and their eleven children spent much of their summers at the family's island estate, Les Groisardières, located near the village of Ste. Pétronille. As is shown through the collection's photographs, the Porteous family welcomed not only Marjorie, but several of Marjorie and Phyllis's other friends to their estate during the summers. These included Margery Clouston, Alice Sutherland and the entire Drury family, to which the Porteouses were related through their mother. From Île d'Orléans Marjorie, Phyllis, and their friends sailed on the St. Lawrence and visited near by destinations, including Quebec City and Montmorency.
